Fighters Hive is a mixed martial arts gym in West Lothian, offering training for amateur fighters and athletes as well as mums, kids and everyone in between wishing to get fit or learn self-defence.
The owner of the gym first approached me to redesign his logo and after some further discussion we found that the problem was deeper than just a redesign. He was finding that his brand and web design did not reflect the atmosphere within the gym and his regular customers and therefore any potential new customers (average person not wishing to be an amateur or professional fighter) were being put off before they even stepped foot in the gym.
I started by researching competitors as well as a broader range of brands within the martial arts industry. The word Hive played a crucial part when sketching and coming up with ideas for the logo and the brand colours of yellow and black were already established.
Creating a logo mark that would appeal to a wider audience and one that could also work on the web as well as signage and clothing apparel helped to create a more cohesive brand. The website was stripped back to its key information while adding articles with a personal touch to reflect the gyms friendly and approachable atmosphere.
I also attended several classes to capture photographs for use on the website and social media along with footage to produce a promotional video showcasing the different classes and students.
With clearer information on the website, high quality photography, an up to date class timetable and a clear call to action customers could connect with the gym and feel welcome before even stepping foot in the gym. The promotional video which I also edited together has had over 11,000 views on social media and there has been a spike in new students since the work was completed.
